Professional Wealth Management’s Elisa Battaglia Trovato interviewed Rami Cassis about the evolving role of family offices in direct investing, the perception gap between private equity and family capital, and his personal investment philosophy at Parabellum Investments.
In the interview, Cassis highlighted the reputational advantage family offices hold over traditional private equity firms, noting they are often viewed as more human, long-term focused, and easier to work with – especially in the mid and lower mid-market segments. He discussed the need for greater structure and discipline within family offices as they pursue direct investments, including a shift in governance and team infrastructure to handle deal sourcing, due diligence, and post-investment support.
Cassis emphasised that his investment approach is rooted in personal responsibility and financial independence, underscored by the fact that he risks his own capital, as opposed to third-party capital, when making investments.
He also shared his sector outlook, highlighting fintech and pharmatech as resilient, innovation-led industries, and reflected on the global investment landscape. While traditionally bullish on the US, he noted growing uncertainty under the current administration is casting Europe in a more favourable light.
